Maggot Movement

A Sustainable Waste Management Initiative at Sumitra Luxury Villas & Resort

Sanur – Bali, 28 May 2026 – Sustainability

As part of its long-term commitment to sustainable hospitality and environmentally responsible operations, Pramana Experience continues to develop meaningful green initiatives across its hospitality collection in Bali.

One of these initiatives is the Maggot Movement, implemented at Sumitra Luxury Villas & Resort as part of the property’s sustainability journey and operational waste management efforts.

The initiative reflects Pramana Experience’s vision to transform environmental challenges into purposeful and sustainable solutions through innovation, awareness, and collective action.

What is the Maggot Movement?

The Maggot Movement focuses on utilizing Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae — commonly known as maggots — as a natural and sustainable solution to process organic waste.

Organic waste generated from hospitality operations, especially food waste, can be processed naturally by maggots and transformed into:

  • Organic fertilizer
  • Sustainable waste reduction solutions
  • Eco-friendly operational support
  • Alternative natural resource circulation
  • Environmental education opportunities

This process helps reduce the amount of organic waste sent to landfill while supporting more sustainable waste management practices within hospitality operations.

Sustainability Through Natural Circulation

At Sumitra Luxury Villas & Resort, the Maggot Movement becomes part of a broader environmental initiative focused on creating a more conscious operational ecosystem.

The initiative encourages:

  • Organic waste awareness
  • Responsible food waste management
  • Sustainable operational habits
  • Environmental education among teams
  • Long-term eco-conscious hospitality practices

Rather than viewing food waste as a problem, the Maggot Movement transforms it into part of a sustainable natural circulation system.

Supporting Responsible Hospitality

The hospitality industry produces significant organic waste daily, making sustainable waste management increasingly important for the future of tourism.

Through initiatives such as the Maggot Movement, Pramana Experience continues to encourage environmentally mindful operational culture while integrating sustainability into everyday hospitality practices.

Combined with other initiatives such as Teba Modern and Eco Enzyme Movement, the Maggot Movement supports Pramana Experience’s broader sustainability vision rooted in harmony between people, culture, and nature.

Join the Movement Towards a Greener Future

Pramana Experience invites guests, communities, hospitality partners, and future generations to become part of the movement towards more sustainable living and responsible hospitality.

By supporting greener operational practices and environmental awareness, together we can help:

  • Reduce organic waste
  • Build healthier ecosystems
  • Encourage sustainable tourism
  • Create stronger environmental responsibility
  • Support a brighter future for generations to come

Because sustainability begins from small actions that are carried out consistently together.
